Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Integrated) - ENU is a redistributable version of the Visual Studio 2010 IDE that lets independent software vendors and enterprise teams host their tools within the familiar Visual Studio environment. It provides the core IDE framework—solution and project management, windowing, menus and commands, editors, and help integration—without including Microsoft programming languages or compilers. It is intended for extensions built as VSPackages or MEF-based components.
When a full edition of Visual Studio is installed, the Integrated Shell merges seamlessly with it; otherwise, it installs a streamlined Visual Studio-based environment dedicated to the host application. This ENU release offers the English (United States) interface. Typical uses include domain-specific development tools, database or modeling environments, and other specialized productivity solutions. It is not a standalone development environment, but a runtime shell for tools that require the Visual Studio IDE experience.
